What’s really at Stake in this Election?

Sometimes, Americans tune in to their local and national news to get an idea what is really going on but often what we get is “spin” depending on which channel you stop on.  Enough is enough and it’s time we got the whole story.  Regardless of what you hear on the “idiot box” there is only one real thing that we all should be paying very close attention to and that is this up-coming election.  What’s at stake will mean the differences between this nation progressing or regressing.

What people should know?

·         THE GALLUP POLL RESULTS SAY THAT 46% FAVOR REPEAL OF OBAMACARE AND 40% OPPOSE IT WITH 14% HAVING NO OPINION BUT WHAT IS OBAMACARE?

·         OBAMACARE IS THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

·         OBAMACARE’S AFFORDABLE CARE ACT IS ALLOWING YOUNGER AMERICANS TO STAY ON THEIR PARENTS’ INSURANCE

·         OBAMACARE’S AFFORDABLE CARE ACT IS REDUCING THE DOUGHNUT HOLE FOR SENIORS

·         OBAMACARE’S AFFORDABLE CARE ACT IS MAKING IT ILLEGAL FOR INSURANCE COMPANIES TO DENY ANYONE COVERAGE FOR PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS

·         OBAMACARE’S AFFORDABLE CARE ACT IS GRANTING SMALL BUSINESS A TAX CREDIT FOR PROVIDING HEALTH INSURANCE TO THEIR EMPLOYEES

·         FAVORING REPEAL MEANS THAT YOU FAVOR GETTING RID OF THESE RECENTLY WON VICTORIES FOR ALL AMERICANS REGARDLESS OF CREED, COLOR, SEX, AGE OR ECONOMIC STATUS INCLUDING THOSE OF YOUR OWN PARTY, GROUP OR AFFLILATION

Is this the legacy you really wish to leave to your children and grandchildren or do you still favor repeal or have no opinion?

Other things that are threatened:

·         FREEDOM TO JOIN A UNION, OF WOMEN TO CHOOSE THE PATH THAT BEST FITS THEIR LIVES WHEN IT COMES TO FAMILY PLANNING, FOR ALL CHILDREN OF ALL RACES TO BE FREE OF HARRASSMENT, PROFILING OR INJURY AS THEY WALK THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS OR PLAY IN THEIR YARDS, THE FREEDOM OF KNOWING THAT COMPROMISE IS NOT A DIRTY WORD IF THE DECISIONS REACHED BENEFIT THE MAJORITY AND THE FREEDOM OF VETERANS TO RECEIVE THE SAME KIND OF DEDICATION THAT THEY SHOW TO DEFENDING US.

A Layman Answer to the Debt Ceiling/Reduction Problem

It has become the norm for representatives of the people who get elected by promising to work for the few forget that they also must represent the many as well.  When you are elected to office, you carry with you more than those who elected you, you have now become the face of this nation and your actions or inactions reflect upon this nation.  The question which should be asked and answered by those chosen is what kind of face will others see?

John Boehner may be judged on how he can not act like the adult because he has to check with Rush Limbaugh before putting a plan on the floor but Eric Cantor will also be judged on his lack of leadership skills when it comes to him whipping the votes to pass anything.  It’s an established maxim that if you cater to the minority instead of the majority, you will always be changing planes in mid-air.  These guys are now doing it without a parachute, or so it appears.

If the Republican Party wishes to save itself from the Tea Party, I have a suggestion.  If John Boehner wishes to save his debt ceiling bill with attached debt reduction, it can be done and he can emerge a hero to any American who really does put country first. The first thing that need to do is commission a real poll in the area of those who strongly believe compromise is a dirty word and find out if the people in their districts really did send them to sabotage America?  The next thing he needs to do is realize that those freshmen congress people do not have longevity in office and will be gone in a few years, so to save the day, his name and this nation he can get together with Nancy Pelosi, Stanley Hoyer and Charles Clyburn, find out what is needed minimally to get the 197 Democratic votes in the House of Representatives then re configure his bill to reflect that.  This should make the whip count job of Eric Cantor much easier.

The House submits that bill to the Senate and the Senate passes it without much fanfare because it got Democratic votes.  The problem is solved and the world now breathes easier.  For Boehner and Cantor’s re-election, many independents who normally would sit out the Republican State Primaries, step up and negate any power that the Tea Party seems to have.  Just as they did for John McCain against J.D. Hayward in Arizona.  Boehner and Cantor’s primary ad will be that they stood tall and walked proudly when it came to saving their nation.  They may have bowed to the Tea Party Assassins but they did not break.  After all, the main problem with those in the Tea Party is that they believe that what it took many years to break can be fixed over night and with one bill.  They believe that their only concern is those who elected them and while it is true, it is also true that once you raised your hand and swore that oath, you took on the hopes and dreams of all America too.  Even those who don’t look like you, think like you, worship like you, talk like you or live like you.  Just a thought!

Take back your voice America

Have something to say but fear no one is listening?  Been waiting for the time when you can have a voice in how your country is run?  Tired of those with deep pockets or over-reaching ideas getting the ear of your elected officials?
Well now you can.  American Citizens of Modest Means (ACOMM) will give you the microphone to speak on any issue and as often as you like.  We will broadcast your message not only locally but nationally as well.  It’s been too long where we have depended on others to speak for us.  It is time we speak for ourselves.  Your message will appear in an advertisement in your local area and if requested nationally as well.  No more depending on media to tell you how to think.  We will provide you with both sides of the issue so that you can make an educated decision of which side you wish to support.  In the words of Abraham Lincoln “Any person who makes a statement not knowing that it is true or false at the time it’s made is guilty of a falsehood and whether they are later proven right does not absolve them of that”.

Now it our Turn

There’s a new sun on the horizon and its rising fast.  Those who have remained quiet will no longer be retrained and those who have felt ignored will now be heard.

I was one who had ideas and thoughts about the direction of this country but even with the ability of the blogosphere still felt as if I was not getting heard.  I wanted to do my part in helping to find solutions to the countries’ problems but never could see any incorporation of those ideas make it to those who would ultimately be in charge of making the final decision.  That was then, this is now.

Welcome to ACOMM PAC or American Citizens of Modest Means.  Documentation has already been submitted to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and you can join at www.americancitizensofmodestmeans.blogspot.com.  This PAC is designed to hold all elected officials feet to the fire and demand that if you promise, you will be forced to deliver.  Do not look for the leadership of this PAC to be spending much time in front of cameras, on cable news networks or hobnobbing with the Washington Elite.  We stay in the community, on the ground and in the face of leaders who have gone astray from serving those who elected them, not those who bought them.  This PAC is designed to not only bring to light the issues but also offer thoughtful solutions.   We are here to present the entire story so those listening and reading can make an educated decision on where they wish to stand on any issue.  This PAC rejects the labels of Democrat, Republican, Independent, Liberal Conservative and most definitely Tea Party.  We are Americans first and foremost and we are stepping in and stepping up because no one seems to have the spine to do so.

I felt the need to act based on what I believe is the way we got into this mess in the first place.  We were already in a world of hurt when Barack Obama was sworn in as President.  The majority gave him a ruling Senate and House to help him implement the changes we needed.  The House hit the ground running and delivered what the majority asked for in over 400 bills.  The Senate went to sleep and stayed sleep until the Lame Duck session.  Democrats had the majority but bills died in the Senate because some Democrats had to play Republican.  Then the Progressives decided that they were going to step in and fix the Senate by convincing voters to stay home during the midterm.  The Progressive’s reasoning was that this president did not give them everything that they wanted nor did he do exactly what they wanted him to do when they wanted him to do it.  Reminded me of an age-old question.  Did they want an inclusive, intelligent and thinking president or a slave robot?

Now we are at the stage of this new congress giving the poor, the middle class, women, seniors and veterans the middle finger as they are being stroked and patted on the head by big business.  This where we ended up.  The same group that drove the car in the ditch is now attempting to wrestle the steering wheel away and drive it off the cliff.  Everyone seems to just be sitting back and preparing for the crash.  Will not anymore because that’s where ACOMM comes in.  We will not be donating to any candidate because we do not want to add to the fog of governing but we will be in the business of unrelenting and hard hitting truthful ads so that all those things done in the dark detrimental to the welfare of this nation as a whole will be held to account.  The secret meetings and deals will no longer be secret and those who seek to hide in the shadow will be exposed.  We will support and run ads for any candidate of any stripe who appeals to our standards but make no mistake, if that candidate gets into office and forgets who sent them there and why we will be the first to remind them.  We will not be asking for special treatment but we will be demanding equality.

We want the same rights and privileges extended to big business or big business to be reduced to the rights and privileges that we now enjoy.  No one group shall have more gain than any other because we all must share equally in the ups and downs of this nation.  We will applaud division of ideas and stand up for division of solutions but we will not tolerate division of this country or its people.

The Slow Erosion of Average Citizen’s Level of Protection

We all should be familiar with the phrase “judicial activism” by now since it has been used several times in recent memory to determine if any judge should be allowed a seat on any bench by those in political offices who are tasked with that decision.  I submit, that this has now become an epidemic not because it is necessary but because in order for those without to get justice they deserve, the “go-to” governmental offices established to protect the average individual’s rights no longer do so.

Case in point is the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).  As an individual, I had filed a complaint regarding a prominent radio-talk show host who used his status to give rise to a movement touting that there were an “institutional hatred of America being taught” in African-American households.  This was more than offensive to me as an African-American single father but more so as a former US Marine.  Thinking that government affords even the average citizen protection from rhetoric which is designed to demean, belittle or make inferior any group that does not have the money, prestige or access to the means to level the playing field, I was quickly educated to the contrary.

I received this education via a letter from Sharon Bowers, Division Chief Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau, Consumer Inquires & Complaints Division.  In the letter she states that “the Communications Act and the First Amendment to the Constitution prohibit any action by the FCC that would interfere with free speech in broad-casting.  The FCC cannot interfere with broadcaster’s selection and presentation of material for the news and/or its commentary”.   She goes on to say that any action by the broadcaster that does not present “a clear and present danger of serious substantive evil” are protected by the First Amendment”.   While I applaud the stance on government not being allowed to tell broadcasters how and what material that they can choose for news and/or commentary, I take full exception to the phrase of outlandish language not being a “clear and present danger of serious substantive evil”.

My evidence is the rhetoric which leads to the killing of Dr. George Tiller where the rhetoric was so strong that weak minded people actually believed that they were in the right to take a life.  They never considered that fighting for the life of a fetus did not give them the freedom to end another life.  My evidence is attempting my pursuit of happiness being impeached and often times thwarted because of demeaning, belittling and careless language like that spewed by this radio-talk show host.  It may not appear to be a clear and present evil to the FCC but try and tell that to someone who seeks a job but is denied because the interviewer believes that his race teaches hatred of America.  Will this evidence ever see the light of day or get recorded, not likely because even those who have very strong beliefs about the illegitimacy of my race are smart enough to never let anyone hear them say it in public.

Right now the only protection the average citizen of modest or lesser means, have is through the courts and now that layer of protection may soon be taken away and only afforded to those with greater means.  So, after that, where will the line be drawn?
